Who we are

Here at Noir et blanc foto we embrace the elegance of black & white photography. Whether we’re engaged in fine art travel, commercial fishing, boating, architectural, interior design, real estate, rural or portraiture and event photography we remain true to our vision.

Noir et blanc foto is owned and operated by Mark Beré Peterson based out of Bozeman, Montana. I fell in love with photography when I was nine, there was just something magic happening inside that little box camera. Little did I know that in a few years the magic of the darkroom would present itself and my love affair would be sealed.

Much of my youth would be framed from behind the lens, through the viewfinder of my trusty Nikon N2000. My camera was released in 1985 and we met at the perfect moment in time. It would join me on such early photographic adventures such as: summer camp photographer, official 4-H fair photographer and obviously family photographer including weddings, family reunions and general happenings of the Peterson family.

I have begrudgingly joined the world of digital photography albeit later than most. Let’s be honest I begrudgingly accepted color photography, much happier in the world of monochrome. A love affair that has lasted to this day. I will shoot in color, but it may take some arm twisting and a solid argument to its superiority for the subject to be photographed.

My two subjects I fell in love with are France and commercial fishing, two disparate subjects if there ever were. The former would lead me to packing up and moving across the pond in my twenties to pursue my love. Commercial fishing was the introduction into a whole new world of mystery and fascination.

Much like the youth of my childhood my reality is defined through the viewfinder and behind the lens.
